The new bill entails that the full fund goes to teachers and school security. The bad side of this new bill is that it will create a new different tax. Fortunately, the school district is asking to adjust the property tax-rate to 0.75 mill or 1.0 mill. If this bill gets passed for a medium homeowner, the tax will be approximately $177 per year.
The reason the district is pushing for a rate adjustment is because they have to share the funds with charter schools. The district is trying to generate another 100 million dollars. This is a general election for the bill. Early voting is October 19 - November 1. Regular voting is November 1.
The good side of the referendum is that the teachers get the money that they deserve if it is approved. The security gets to support their families better. This bill is trying to solve the tension between the district and the teachers. Also, the education improves when the teachers get a raise it attracts attention to new prospects.
If Referendum 268 does not work ’,’ many teachers will leave to other districts. Teachers will get a swift pay cut and this will make it hard to retain good teachers. Also, it makes it harder to recruit quality teachers. This can cause a lot of teachers to leave the district to neighboring ones.
